Whitegold International Ceramic Prize

CALLING ALL MAKERS: A £10,000 award awaits the winner of the newly-created Whitegold International Ceramic Prize.

The first Whitegold International Ceramic Prize will celebrate the versatility of clay used in relationship with people, culture and place. The winners of the prize will be invited to make a piece of work for St Austell. Individual artists, collectives and CICs are invited to submit works that that use clay to inspire new perspectives and insights into place – the specific character of a location that makes it unique. All work of exceptional quality that connects people and place through creativity with clay will be considered. Submitted artwork should ideally be culturally and environmentally aware and socially engaged. More information on how to apply is available at http://www.whitegold.org.uk. Whitegold is a St Austell Bay Economic Forum project generously supported by the Coastal Communities Fund.

Drawing Prize

Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2019

Deadline: 26 June 2019, 5pm

Selected from original drawings, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize has an established reputation for promoting, celebrating, and championing excellence in contemporary drawing practice through this open exhibition dedicated to drawing. This year’s selection panel will comprise Chantal Joffe RA, artist; Andrew Nairne OBE, Director of Kettle’s Yard, University of Cambridge; and Dorothy Price, Reader in History of Art at the University of Bristol, and Editor of Art History. Artists selected for the Prize will be eligible for a range of awards totalling £27,000 including the Working Drawing Prize that this year has increased in value to £2,000. Following the success of the first Evelyn Williams Drawing Award in 2017, the Evelyn Williams Trust will again generously support an award of £10,000: this will be awarded to one of the 2019 shortlisted artists to support the development of a new solo exhibition.

Fresh: British Ceramics Biennial

FRESH 2019

The acclaimed FRESH show will be one of the main exhibitions at the sixth British Ceramics Biennial, taking place in Stoke-on-Trent from 7th September to 13thOctober 2019.

Artists are invited to apply for the BCB FRESH 2019  – a high profile exhibition that celebrates and promotes the emerging talent in contemporary British Ceramics, in the context of its long history in Stoke-On-Trent.

‘FRESH provides a unique platform for recent graduates to exhibit their work at the BCB festival alongside a range of established artists and designers. It showcases the diverse cross-section of ideas and trends currently explored within clay and ceramics practice and offers opportunities for emerging artists to forge new networks both nationally and internationally as they launch their professional careers.’

Awards will be given to two selected FRESH exhibitors: a one-month funded residency at Guldagergaard International Ceramics Research Centre in Denmark in 2020 and a one-month residency with BCB, also in 2020.

Wells Art Contemporary: WAC Awards 2019

Open to artists working in painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, installation and video, the Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) Awards aim to stimulate debate, to challenge and to provoke, pushing the boundaries of the visual arts scene both nationally and internationally. Prizes include a solo show for a young artist, a London group exhibition, prize money and many more. Following the success of the 2018 Awards, WAC has been able to expand and work creatively with Wells Cathedral, which will host the 2019 exhibition. This is a vanguard project for both Wells Art Contemporary and Wells Cathedral and has allowed for the development of an additional installation opportunity to run alongside the exhibition with interventions installed in up to eight different parts of the cathedral.
