I was delighted and unsurprised to hear that Phoebe had won the Woman’s Hour Craft Prize, despite competition from some of the best around. I was listening live and whispered her name to myself in the pause before the announcement.

For me, Phoebe embodies the mix of qualities that leads to the most interesting, engaged art/craft: modesty and uncertainty combined with resilience, commitment, skill and imagination. I wrote a short essay on [and around] her work in 2013:
